Spring Sports Spectator information 2021

New Canaan High School

We are thrilled that the spring sports season is underway. Close to 600 student athletes are playing on our fields, courts, track, and local golf courses. We are planning for a near normal spring athletic experience for all athletes and families.

In the COVID environment, the CT Department of Economic and Community Development has developed sector rules that determine capacity of venues, total number of spectators inside and outside as well general COVID safety protocols.

Following the latest DECD guidance, effective March 19, New Canaan will be allowing fans, including students, to attend spring athletic events. For most outdoor events we will have no limit on the number of spectators. Spectators for Volleyball will be limited to 2 parents for both the home and visiting teams. This is due to the event being indoors. When we anticipate that a game will draw a large crowd, we will likely place a cap on attendance. Details to follow.

Please remember that our yearlong COVID battle is not over. It is very important that anyone attending a NCHS Athletic event wear a mask and maintain proper social distancing. Our goal is to keep all athletes, coaches, officials and spectators as safe and comfortable as possible. We will have a school presence at most events and monitor compliance with the COVID safety protocols carefully. We reserve the right to re-evaluate our fan attendance policy at any time.  It is also important to know that each school community in the FCIAC may be interpreting the sector guidelines in different ways. I will have information about spectator rules at all away venues prior to the start of the competition season on April 10.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Let’s enjoy watching our athletes finally back in action.
